"Chris Patch [Davis Frame Production Manager] was helpful, as he chamfered the foyer beam specifically for the light and was able to send the artist the exact dimensions so the great room lights fit perfectly in the space. The railing around the balcony is custom made/forged by a local iron smith. Can you tell that I LOVE our house?"

About Timber Frame & Post and Beam

Timber framing, sometimes called post and beam, is a traditional method of building wooden structures. Traditional timber frames are distinguished by their all-wooden joinery, known as mortise and tenon, as well as for the exposed beams that are not only incredibly durable, but also create beautiful indoor spaces.

Timber Frame or Post and Beam?

Post and beam home construction is a framework based solely on vertical and horizontal pieces: the posts and the beams. Post and beam structures are constructed in layers, with each floor built independently from the others. Typically one piece is erected at a time and simple or no joinery is used.

Timber frame construction consists of posts that span unbroken from sill to eave or ridge and are erected in walls and bents. (Bents run perpendicular to the ridge of the roof, while walls run parallel to the ridge). Historically, traditional joinery was made entirely of wood.

The Davis Frame Timber Frame:
Davis Frame will design your new timber frame home the way you want it. We use a computer-controlled, automated cutting machine to precisely cut the majority of the joinery on our timbers. We pay careful attention to the details on each and every piece in the frame, choosing to hand cut some joinery to ensure a tight fit.
Timber Frame Truss Systems
Timber Frame Bent and Truss Systems:
We offer a variety of different options when it comes to choosing timber frame systems and trusses for your new home project. The two most common timber frame types used today to build timber frames are either common rafter frames, or common purlin frames. Not all frame types fit into these categories, however the most common frames we produce here at Davis Frame do.
