"This spring (February 2008) will mark the 20th anniversary of your coming down to Middleburg to put up our Davis Timber Frame. Jeff, not a day goes by where either Kathy or I don't remark about the beauty of the frame and how it provides the "soul" of our home. Many, many thanks from us to you and your team."

Davis Frame Expands Manufacturing Plant

February 9, 2008
BY NED DEANE

LEED Certified Timber Frame CompaniesA new manufacturing building is nearing completion at the Claremont-based Davis Frame Company, a leader in the timber-frame structures industry. The new 13,000-square foot building is a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Certified structure, and will house special Speed Cut machinery and Davis Frame's bio-based soy foam application process. The expanded production facility, which is nearly double the size of the facility it replaces, will make it possible for Davis Frame to add environmentally friendly soy-based spray foam that will be used in their timber frame structures. They plan to hire additional individuals to staff this growing company. Davis Frame will be promoting the field application of bio-based insulation spray foam directly to builders.

With the expanded plant and product line, Davis Frame hired Reid Greenberg as e-commerce and marketing director in late fall. Greenberg, who spent seven years at eBay, was most recently the director of e-commerce for Ibex Outdoor Clothing. He is working to adapt many new Web technologies to Davis Frame, and to effectively incorporate emerging technology in a complete Website redesign with blog video, search engine optimization, and search engine marketing. Greenberg will also manage print advertising campaigns to help further grow the company that sells its products throughout the Northeast and across the country.

Davis Frame builds custom timber frames and timber frame houses using craftsmanship based upon traditional New England techniques including mortise-and-tenon joinery and wooden pegs to hold the timbers in place. The frame is exposed on the inside of the structure, defining the space and the aesthetics of the home. The curved braces, chamfered edges, and clear tung oil finish have become the signature features of a Davis Frame home. The company provides timber frame homes, barn homes, timber frame additions, heavy timber trusses, commercial timber frames, prefabricated timber trusses, prefabricated timber bents, stairs, and porches from a variety of wood species.

The company also provides structural insulated panels (SIPs), Loewen and Integrity windows, pre-finished tongue-and-groove material, cedar siding and trim, custom fir railing, and a variety of other building products. Davis Frame also specializes in the design, sales and installation of high-performance building panels, which are used in floors, walls, and roofs for residential and light commercial buildings. The SIP panels are typically made by sandwiching a core of rigid foam plastic insulation between two structural skins of oriented strand board (OSB). SIPs are manufactured under factory-controlled conditions and can be custom designed for each home. The result is a building system that is extremely strong, energy efficient and cost effective.

Timber framer Jeff Davis and custom homebuilder Rick Bascom founded the company 20 years ago. Davis, along with five dedicated artisans, began handcrafting timber frame homes, additions, and commercial buildings for clients throughout New England.
