 Meet Rob Mathis, Davis Frame Company’s Independent Representative for the Colorado region. Rob’s interest in timber framing dates back more than 30 years when he attended graduate school at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. When Rob was studying surface geology in the countryside of eastern New York and western Vermont, he saw his first authentic timber frame barn. At this time, barns were being dismantled, refurbished and used to construct new timber frame homes. Rob became hooked on the beauty of timber frames and dreamed of someday building his own custom timber frame home.
After Rob retired from a 30 year career in the oil industry in Houston and Denver, he and his wife Sue decided to research timber frame companies to help with the construction of their dream Colorado mountain home. Among beauty and durability, the Mathis’s were looking for a timber frame company that would help them design and build an energy efficient custom timber frame home. The couple chose Davis Frame Company in January 2006 and started the design process of their timber frame vacation home. The Mathis Colorado home is a beautiful hybrid timber frame located in Breckenridge and was completed in November 2007. Rob and Sue now divide their time between their homes in the Denver suburbs and their new timber frame home in Breckenridge.
 During the construction of their new timber frame home in Breckenridge, Colorado, Rob became involved in every aspect of the building process. Although he was not the general contractor for the timber frame project, he stayed involved by spending countless hours walking and observing the site and studying the geology of the site of his new home and sketched designs based on his analysis of his lot. Rob also was involved with: interviewing architects and general contractors, selected most of his sub-contractors, HOA coordination, building permits, ordering materials and mainly monitoring the construction of the home. Sue Mathis was also a great help during the planning process of their timber frame home as she is the daughter of an architect. Sue also has a design background and graduated with a B.S. degree in Interior Design from the University of Illinois. Her expertise in this area was helpful in the design phase of the project and also in the selection of the home’s furnishings.
Rob and Sue also volunteer at the Breckenridge Ski Resort as Guest Services Ambassadors and participate in the Colorado Department of Transportation Adopt-a-Highway Program (Hwy 6 between Keystone and Arapahoe Basin Ski Areas). With the Mathis’s involvement with their local community, they will be your best resource in building a timber frame home in Colorado. Rob has a great deal of experience in the construction process and the Colorado area. With his professional experience as a geologist and being involved with the construction process of two homes (CO and TX) he will be able to provide his clients with a unique perspective with site planning and design of your beautiful energy efficient Davis timber frame home.
